It was a long night in College Station, Texas as the Cyclones were defeated by 23rd ranked Texas A&M Wednesday.

The volleyball team fell to the Aggies in three straight games 15-5, 15-1, and 15-9, not accomplishing its goal of reaching the 10-point mark.

The Cyclones were led offensively by senior Stacy Nicks. Nicks contributed with 10 kills, a .360 hitting percentage and two block assists.

“One person that has been stable for us is Stacey Nicks. She really didn’t get blocked in the match against A&M. She was fairly dominant when we were able to run our faster offense,” said ISU Volleyball Coach Linda Grensing.

Defensively, the Cyclones were led by sophomore outside hitter Sarah Rollman. Rollman led the team with three blocks, including two solo stops. Rollman’s performance for the night put her over the 100-kill plateau which made her the second Cyclone to go over 100 kills and 100 digs this season.

Nanette Allen is the other Cyclone to accomplish this record. She currently owns 106 kills and 107 digs.

Leading the way for the Aggies were Erin Gibson and Heather Marshall. Gibson tallied eight kills and hit .429 from the floor against the Cyclones.

Marshall followed closely behind contributing seven kills, six digs and two block assists for the night.

Grensing was particularly happy with the play of her team in the first and third game.

“We had more of a presence in the first and third games,” Grensing said. “At the beginning of the season, that was more of a weakness. Whenever you play a ranked team and score 5-10 points then it’s a better match. Being even with them at 9-9 in the third game is important to us.”

With the loss to Texas A&M, the Cyclones move 2-12 overall and 0-7 in the Big 12 conference.

The Aggies improved their record to 9-4 overall in the season and 4-2 in conference action.

Next up for the Cyclones is the top-ranked Nebraska Cornhuskers. The game will be played Sunday at Hilton Coliseum beginning at 1 p.m.

“Nebraska is a team that has a lot of different dimensions. They’re a very dominating team,” Grensing said. “I’ve looked at the video and been real impressed with their defense and ball handling. It’s exceptional. They have some great hitters and blockers, and there’s not many Division 1 teams with that kind of balance.”
