Letter to the editor

Dan Vlasak

I am pleased to see progress being made in our opinion section. People really are listening and reading. I thank Blaine Moyle for enlightening us with a much better interpretation of the Bible than I have ever heard. But this time instead of beating the dead horse of Evolution/Creationism, I want to comment on the upcoming presidential election. Kudos to Benjamin Combs for his excellent rebuttal to Sam Wong’s poorly constructed argument against voting for Ralph Nader. In my opinion, Ralph Nader has the best shot this year of duping the corrupt two party system. Why? Because he is real, a good person, has common sense, and represents the viewpoint of almost every college student who cares. By the way, every college student that doesn’t vote this year is a moron. If you don’t think voting matters, move to China. Since I’m done venting for the moment, back to Nader. He wants campaign finance reform and protection of the environment from the will-stoop-to-any-level, profit-hungry big business. Nader wants to protect the average consumer: you, me, everyone. He wants to legalize the growing of hemp, a product so useful and versatile that big-lumber, big-paper, and other big fat cat status-quo lovers are crapping their pants at the thought. You know hemp? That thing that Iowa used to grow instead of corn, which still grows not even a mile from our campus, which gives you a sore throat and a headache when smoked? Do you know how much money big fat cat status-quo lovers gave to the Gore/Bush campaigns this year? More than you or I will probably ever make. I could go on and on, but now it’s your turn to write in to this section. If not for the greater good, then for me, that Com Sci major who is just another number, who knows the government well and is known well by “The Man.” Write in for me, so in between classes I can laugh at your subtle humor or gasp at your stupidity. By the way, this probably won’t be the last time you hear from me. And lastly, for god’s sake: Vote! Dan Vlasak,

Junior
