The ISU Cyclone men’s track and field team has received a letter of intent from a local half-miler to run at Iowa State.

Mitch Anderson from Mount Pleasant has signed a national letter of intent to join Iowa State’s team.

Anderson is one of the top half-milers in the state and led Mount Pleasant to many lofty achievements in the past year.

Individually, he was runner-up in the Class 3-A 800-meter run at the 2000 state track and field meet. He also led the Panthers to a first- place finish in the medley relay at the state meet.

Anderson anchored Mount Pleasant’s 4×800 meter relay team, which placed fourth at state. His split time of 1:54.6 was the fastest anchor leg in Class 3-A.

In April, Anderson ran the 800-meter leg of the Mount Pleasant medley relay team at the Drake Relays.

That team went on to set a record time in that event at the Drake Relays.

Anderson achieved a personal best time of 1:55.8 in the 800-meter run this past year at the state meet and his anchor leg on the championship medley team was completed in 1:56.9.
