Tom Plagge and Chris Benson conducted their first Inter-Residence Hall Association meeting, as they were inaugurated president and vice president during the last meeting of the semester.

Before Benson was handed the gavel at the April 20 meeting, former IRHA President David Sims and Vice President Jeff Greiner gave closing remarks. Both said IRHA was very successful this past year and that they were sad to see the year end.

“I had a lot of fun doing this job and seeing the progress that we’ve accomplished,” Greiner said. “I hope that next year we can continue with our success.”

Sims commented on the work that executive and parliament members have done throughout the year.

“As far as working with [the executive members], our cabinet was wonderful,” Sims said. “They’re the behind-the-scenes people and don’t get recognized very often.”

He also said he’s greatly benefited from his three years of IRHA experience. “I’m proud of what I have become through this organization,” Sims said.

When the speeches ended, Plagge and Benson were given full reign over the meeting as parliament voted on the last four bills of the year.

One bill gave a plan of action if Plagge and Benson resign next year because of their planned residency in Hawthorn Court.

Bill Wychulis, Towers Residence Association president, proposed to make amendments detailing how a new vice president and cabinet members would be chosen.

According to the present bylaws, the IRHA director of finance would become president and would then convene a process to appoint members to cabinet positions.

“If Tom and Chris have to resign, everyone would move up; that’s how I read it,” Wychulis said. “We want it done by an appointment process.”

The bill passed unanimously, as did the other three bills. One bill made slight changes to the IRHA constitution. Another approved the policy for how houses can decorate their floors, and the final one concerned IRHA’s financing of the charity 100-inning softball game, which will be April 29.
