Heavy snow and bitter cold temperatures didn’t stop over 1,000 people from coming to Stephens Auditorium to watch the Moscow Chamber Orchestra perform Wednesday night.

Many of Russia’s finest soloists showed off their skills to a mix of young and old concertgoers as they filed in to witness their talent, playing a near flawless set that delighted the audience.

Outside Stephens after the show, a chilly ISU President Martin Jischke said the orchestra’s performance was “absolutely wonderful.”

Under the direction of conductor Constantine Orbelian, the MCO performed classical works by composers such as Mozart, Edvard Grieg and Sergei Prokofiev.

The acclaimed version of Tchaikovsky’s “Serenade for Strings” proved to be a crowd favorite. The audience admired both the speed and beauty of the song.

Each set garnered immense applause, including a standing ovation at the end which brought the MCO out for one of the three encore performances to treat the crowd.

The third encore was a classical rendition of the American folk song “Yankee Doodle Dandy,” featuring a crowd-captivating violin solo.

After nearly two and a half hours, the MCO exited the stage and left Stephens standing in applause.
