Forced entry attempted in Davidson Hall

Entry was attempted into a Davidson Hall office last week according to a Department of Public Safety report filed on June 17.

Loras Jaeger, director of the DPS, said attempted entry into Rameshwar Kanwar’s office at 219 Davidson Hall was reported on June 17 at 9:54 a.m. by the Office of Agriculture and Biosystems Engineering.

Jaeger said the door lock had been tampered with; however, he said he does not believe anyone actually entered the room.

Kanwar, professor of agriculture and biosystems engineering, has been out of the country for the past week and said his secretary first noticed the door lock had been tampered with when she was putting mail in his room.

Kanwar said there are two computers in the room, including a laptop, but said “if [anything else] is lost, it will take me several days to find out.”

He said he was surprised when he found out about the break-in attempt and has “no idea” why anyone would want to gain access into his office.

However, he said it could have been because his office is in the corner of the building, away from main corridors.

Kanwar said he has been using the office for several years and not had any problems.

“I will leave it careful now,” he said. “I typically am pretty good; I keep my door locked mostly.”

Kanwar said he will be more careful to keep his door locked after this incident.

“[I] feel it is a pretty safe building, but I don’t know,” he said. “Honestly speaking, I have not lost anything in my 23 years in this building, but things have changed.”

Administrators in the main office of Agriculture and Biosystems and Engineering who filed the report declined comment.

Jaeger said there have been a few other cases of attempted entry at ISU this summer, including an attempt to break into a room in Spedding Hall.

He also said someone entered and took radios out of a Gilman Hall room.
