The Iowa State women’s golf team capped off the spring season by finishing 10th at the Big 12 tournament in Denver, Colo.

The Cyclones were led by Noel Jacobusse, who tallied three-day total of 230, good for 16th place overall.

Jacobusse, sophomore from Algona, shot rounds of 76 and 74, which were sandwiched around an 80 in round two.

Also having a solid tournament was Heather Elenbaas, who was recently honored as the hardest worker on the squad.

The sophomore from Shawnee, Kan., fired a three-round total of 236 that placed her in a tie for 35th place.

Elenbaas started strong with a 77 before scoring rounds of 80 and 79 to finish out her spring.

“I played OK. Obviously I think I could’ve played better, but I was pretty happy. I thought I was hitting it well for the most part, but I just wasn’t scoring,” Elenbaas said.

Cathy Ennis, a sophomore from St. John’s, Newfoundland, was two stokes behind Elenbaas with a 238.

She tied Jacobusse for the lowest round by a Cyclone when she scored a 74 in the second round.

Yet another sophomore, Megan O’Dea, tied for 45th place with a score of 240.

Glynnis McMath, a sophomore from Broken Arrow, Okla., rounded out the scoring with a 249.

This wrapped up a spring which saw the Cyclones struggle for the most part.

Although a number of things contributed to the decline, the conditions in Ames over the winter played a part.

After playing the fall season, which saw the five sophomores improve steadily, the team had high expectations for the spring season.

Unfortunately the team’s expectations never came to fruition.

“Everybody’s game was a little off. I don’t think anybody hit as well as they could have. It could’ve been the winter that affected our confidence, but we still played a lot, even if it was just indoors,” Elenbaas said.

“It was disappointing to end our season on a down note, but hopefully we’ll all work hard this summer and come back strong in the fall,” Elenbaas said.
