In addition to sifting through the classified ads for employment, Ames community members can turn to the World Wide Web for job openings in Story County.

One such site, the NationJob Network, has provided job listings through its Web site, http://www.nationjob.com/ames, for the past two years. The list includes more than 225 available positions in Ames and surrounding communities.

The site is updated regularly with the latest job openings for Ames, Nevada and Story City.

The service is funded mostly by businesses that buy advertising space on the site.

A majority of the current job openings listed on the site are for positions at Iowa State or Mary Greeley Medical Center. Assistant professors, temporary instructors, licensed practical nurses and registered nurses also are some of the jobs listed repeatedly on the site.

Mary Greeley Medical Center, 1111 Duff Ave., is a major sponsor of the site.

Casey Mahon, director of community relations for Mary Greeley, said the medical center receives an average of 12 r‚sum‚s weekly that are submitted via the Internet.

“It’s a very valuable and useful tool for attracting talented health care professionals to Mary Greeley Medical Center,” Mahon said.

The fee to post job openings on NationJob Network for Ames businesses ranges from $50 to $250 depending on the number of employees at the company, said David Maahs, executive director of the Ames Chamber of Commerce.

Bob Levinstein, NationJob Network vice president, said the network is expanding.

“Communities in 10 different states use our service, which covers approximately 5 million people,” he said.

Iowa City and Ottumwa also have NationJob Network listings.

Job Factory, located at http://www.jobfactory.com/, is a similar site listing many job openings in the community.
