Review criticism

Sheila Collins and Matt Baker

This letter is in response to the music review by Kevin Hosbond that appeared on March 25 on the “Meet the Deedles” soundtrack.

First of all, Mr. Hosbond should try sticking to the music that he knows next time when he picks a CD to review.

In his review he states that most of the bands are the product of the Orange County ska movement. As far as I and other true ska fans know, the Bosstones are from Boston and their music is far from noise.

By your comment that Goldfinger is a “kick-ass power ska band,” you have proven to all us ska fans that you are uninformed and don’t even know what ska truly is.You are obviously a product of the brainwashings of MTV and commercial radio. If you can’t buy it at Wal-Mart, you don’t want to hear it.

As for your intellectual comment about Hepcat “sucking,” I would just like to know if you have ever heard their music? They blend a unique style of Two-Tone ska and Third Wave into an eclectic mix that far outdoes your favorite band, which I would guess is 311.

Try listening to one ska show on KURE before you make a judgement on some talented bands that you have never heard more than one song from.

Next time, if you don’t know what you are talking about, keep your mouth shut and your pen down.
