To create more awareness of the agricultural field, the International Agriculture Club is hosting a panel discussion on March 3 from 6-8 p.m. in the Great Hall of the Memorial Union.

Through the discussion, the club is helping to prepare Iowa State students for work with agricultural businesses and professionals around the world.

Matthew Miller, president of the International Agriculture Club and sophomore in agricultural education and agricultural business, said the field has expanded significantly in recent years.

“Agriculture is continually becoming more globalized; therefore, future business people must start developing the skills required to work with others around the world,” he said.

The panel discussion will feature five professionals in agriculture with jobs that involve working with people around the world, Miller said.

The list of experts includes Jennifer Bussey, international sales coordinator from Hy-Line International, Harold Hodson, part-owner, president and executive director of Swine Genetics International and Roger Underwood, president of Becker-Underwood.

Other guests include Jenny Weber, field supervisor for Rain & Hail Insurance, and Julie Westendorf, corn marketing manager for Asia, Africa, the Middle East and China for Pioneer Hi-Bred International.

The club will start the evening by sampling a variety of international foods.

The panel discussion will follow, as well as a question-answer session. Finally, audience members will be invited to participate in individual interaction with panel members.

“I think this event will be an excellent opportunity for students to hear firsthand about how businesses are becoming more globalized, and what they are looking for in an employee,” Miller said.
