Bands gather for FreedomFest

Six Iowa bands will gather in the name of human-rights awareness for a concert tonight in the basement of State Gym.

Dubbed FreedomFest, the concert was organized by The Ames Independent Music Society, Amnesty International and ISU Students For A Free Tibet.

Ames bands Shiver and Gentle Hearts Advance, along with Lube, Opus Aeternus, Rinse and Katherin Hepburn’s Amazin’ Dancin’ Pubique Bears, will be performing at the event.

“Our band really wanted to work with Students For A Free Tibet,” Shiver and AIMS member Jeff Shannon said. “I think a lot of people will come that wouldn’t normally come to one of our shows.”

Shiver played in the Free Tibet benefit held last month at The Long Shot with Iowa City’s Bottledog and will open the show tonight.

“The bands who play are really cool,” Shannon said. “They come along way and not expect to get paid.”

Tonight’s show will be free admission, although donations to your choice of organization will be accepted.

FreedomFest is scheduled to begin at 8 p.m.
