After nearly seven years of service as the Iowa State Dean of Library Services, Nancy Eaton is making a move to Penn State.

Beginning in September, Eaton will accept her new title — dean of university libraries. The position will entail being both chief administrator and academic officer of the Penn State University Libraries.

As the newly appointed dean, Eaton’s primary responsibilities will include budgeting and planning, information technologies, faculty and staff leadership, fund raising and collection development for libraries at all Penn State locations.

A graduate of Stanford University, Eaton received her master’s of library science from the University of Texas at Austin, where she also did post-master’s degree work under a U.S. Department of Education fellowship. Since then, Eaton has been a frequent speaker at national association meetings on the subject of information technology and library services.

Recently, Eaton has published such articles and book chapters as “Information Technology in the Academic Environment,” “New Challenges for Technical Services in the 21st Century,” as well as many others.

In the past, Eaton has overseen the Bailey/Howe Memorial Library, the Dana Medical Library, the Chemistry/Physics Library, University Archives and numerous other media services.

At ISU, Eaton has been responsible for the administration of the university library system since 1989, which has a collection of two million volumes and an annual budget of $12.5 million.
