Investigators ask: Do you recognize these men?

Ames police have released composite sketches of two people suspected in connection with Uri Sellers’ murder.

The composites, which were released Wednesday, were drawn from descriptions given to police by witnesses.

Sgt. Jim Robinson, public relations officer for the Ames Police Department, said three people are considered suspects in the killing, but only two composites are available.

The first suspect is described as a white male, age 19 to early 20s, about 6 feet tall, 190 pounds with short, black hair and some kind of facial hair, possibly a moustache, goatee and long side burns. His clothing at the scene of the crime was described as a black jacket, tan shirt and blue jeans.

A second suspect, said to be a companion of the first suspect, is described as a white male, age 20 to 25, about 5 feet 11 inches to 6 feet 1 inch tall, and 180 to 200 pounds. His clothing at the scene of the crime was described as a dark-colored hat, light-colored shirt and blue jeans.

Police urge anyone with information about either of the suspects to contact the Ames Police Department at 239-5133 or 239-5132.

Officials say the suspects are dangerous and should not be approached if seen.

“If someone sees who they believe to be one of the suspects they should contact the Ames Police Department,” Robinson said. “I would classify them [the suspects] as dangerous.”

Robinson said the police department has received calls from people who have seen the sketches, but he declined to comment on the number of calls or the nature of the calls.

Police are still interviewing witnesses, following up leads and receiving new information, he said.

“We are confident there will be an arrest,” Robinson said.

Ames Police Chief Dennis Ballantine said investigators are not planning to release an emergency 911 tape about the crime for the time being. He did not say when the tape would be released.

Sellers’ funeral is scheduled for Friday at 2:30 p.m. at the First Baptist Church, 810 South Commerce St., in Monroe.

The 19-year-old DMACC student was stabbed to death early Sunday morning on the front lawn of Adelante Fraternity on Welch Avenue.

Sellers was in Ames for the weekend Veishea celebration.
