Reporting to Iowans

A 32-page booklet titled “Report to Iowans” was sent to 5,000 people across the state to show them what is in store for Iowa State. The brochure was mailed to Iowa government leaders, economic leaders and other major officials across the state in hopes of building support for ISU.

John Anderson, interim director of University Relations, coordinated the project of producing the booklet.

“It is a promotional publication. We hope to build support among Iowans for ISU,” he said.

The ideas covered in “Report to Iowans” are also the basis of Iowa State President Martin Jischke’s plan to make Iowa State the best land-grant university in the nation. The booklet was published for the general public and was distributed to teach Iowans about Iowa State.

The booklet focuses on ideas such as strengthening undergraduate and graduate programs, strengthening Extension Service efforts, sustaining a supportive university community, and establishing international leadership in the effective use of information technology.

The project cost ISU $20,000, and it is the first time a booklet like this has been made.

“We didn’t have to make this, but we do have to make a report to the Board of Regents on our progress,” Anderson said. The booklet will also be used for that purpose.

James Hopson, executive director of the Alumni Association, received one of the 5,000 copies.

“I think it is useful to the Alumni Association and it is a good account of what has happened at Iowa State,” Hopson said.

Extra copies are available at the University Relations office in the Communications Building if anyone is interested in the booklet.

“The booklet was very well received with positive comments,” Anderson said. “Our primary constituency is the people of Iowa, because we’re Iowa’s land-grant university.”
