The VisionAire Corporation has a new member on its board of directors.

Wayne Moore, former vice president for business and finance at Iowa State, recently filled a vacancy on the VisionAire Corporation’s Board. Moore was appointed to an unexpired term left open by Fred Miller of Ames.

VisionAire Corporation is a St. Louis-based company which is in the process of inventing and constructing a single-engine jet. VisionAire Vantage is a six-place business jet. It is designed to travel 400+ miles per hour while operating from runways as short as 2,500 feet. Ames was designated as the site for manufacturing the jet.

Miller had served on the board since 1993. In a recent press release by the company, Miller said Moore would be an excellent addition to the board. “I have enjoyed my tenure on the board and am very pleased that Wayne has succeeded me,” he said. “He will represent the interests of the shareholders and Ames community extremely well.”

There are approximately 12 members on the board, Moore said. “I was surprised when asked to fulfill the position,” he said.

Moore and a group of 10 people became involved in VisionAire by encouraging the company’s process. The members of the group made individual investments in the company.

Moore said VisionAire is a good high tech company that has the potential to correspond well with Iowa State’s engineering program.

Steve Goodhue, director of public relations for VisionAire Corporation, said Moore was clearly appointed to the Board because of the attributes he made to the company. Increasing capital and financial support for VisionAire has been one of the major attributes Moore has made for the company, he said.

“Wayne has been a strong ambassador for the company,” Goodhue said.

Moore has been actively involved in VisionAire since 1992, when the company first contacted Ames. He also helped Ames become the site for the VisionAire’s first assembly facility. The manufacturing plant will be located next to the Ames airport, and construction is planned to begin next spring, Moore said.

VisionAire announced in August 1995 that it will locate its first production facility in Ames. The location of the facility will affect the Ames economy by employing approximately 150 people, with an annual wage rate of $3.6 million.

Moore currently serves as chairman emeritus and secretary of the Iowa State University Research Park Board of Directors.
