Planned Parenthood of Greater Iowa will be honoring three Ames residents tomorrow at 10:30 a.m. during an open house and fund-raiser.

The open house will take place at the Planned Parenthood of Greater Iowa Clinic of Ames, 2530 Chamberlain Street.

Jill June, Planned Parenthood of Greater Iowa president, will be a speaker at the event.

After the open house a three-mile fund-raising walk will take place. To participate in the walk, the public must register with Planned Parenthood. The registration fee is $20 per adult, $18 for youth and $10 for Iowa State students.

The three residents being honored are George and Arline Montgomery and Barbara Rougvie.

The Montgomerys will receive the Chair’s Discretionary Award. Their relationship with Planned Parenthood began in 1974, when the Ames clinic opened. Dr. Montgomery was a member of the board of directors from 1975-77. Arline Montgomery was a nurse at the Ames clinic for for eight years.

Barbara Rougvie was a member of the Ames community council before she died in 1994. At the open house, the center will be presented with a memorial quilt made by Beth Wunder.

Beth Wunder said, “I made the quilt in memory of Barbara Rougvie. Rather than a quilt block, it [the quilt] was done with irregular patches and pieces.”
