You can stop worrying, she said yes

She said, “Yes!”

If you opened the Daily yesterday, you may have noticed Scott Sackville’s marriage proposal to his girlfriend Michelle Clinton.

Sackville, the manager of Copyworks, popped the question on page three of yesterday’s paper.

“I was sitting in here (Copyworks), working on a project,” Clinton said. “He put the paper down and told me to read it.” But Clinton didn’t read it because she had a project that she needed to finish before her class started.

Later, Clinton heard a lady outside say congratulations to Sackville because she saw his picture in the paper.

“He said ‘shhhh’, that’s when I opened it up and saw it,” Clinton said.

“I started crying,” Clinton said.

Keeping the secret proved to be hard for Sackville. “We got lots of phone calls from family and friends,” he said. “Everybody knew except for her. She hadn’t seen it yet.”

“It’s hard to contain something like that.”

As for the proposal, Clinton said she knew it was coming, but she did not expect it to happen yesterday. “We looked at rings a long time ago and he would always hint,” she said.

“I think it was about the only way he could surprise me,” she said. “I was kind of waiting and waiting and waiting. I wasn’t expecting the paper.”

Sackville and Clinton picked out the ring together about a month ago.

Sackville said he can’t take full credit for the idea of putting an ad in the paper.

“I had seen it before. Somebody brought in a full-page ad (wedding proposal) to be laminated,” he said. “I thought it would be a good idea.”

Sackville’s ad was paid for by Copyworks.

“This is something we’re both going to remember our whole life because it’s so different,” he said.

Sackville and Clinton met at the University of Northern Iowa two years ago.

“I transferred to a different Copyworks and she transferred schools,” Sackville said.

Clinton is a fifth-year senior in marketing. She works with accounting at Copyworks, a Welch Avenue business.

Sackville and Clinton also have a baby boy. Alexander David was born three months ago.

“We did things a little backwards,” Sackville said. “We were going to do the wedding things right. We didn’t want to rush it because of the baby.”

Clinton said although no exact wedding date has been set, they are thinking about May.
