Santa loses his memory at The Ingersoll

Do you think soap operas are the only places where evil twin brothers plot against their siblings. Well, you’re wrong. Ingersoll Dinner Theatre’s production of The Year Santa Almost Forgot Christmas explores the same plot line while adding a Holiday twist.

“It’s an original play,” said Scott Kees of the Theatre’s production office. “It’s new to us.”

The children’s comedy is about an attempted takeover of the North Pole by Santa’s evil brother, Peter. The self-proclaimed mastermind hypnotizes an elf into bonking Santa on the head, causing him to have amnesia. “I’ve seen some real fun rehearsals for the play,” Kees added. “It’s real funny when he loses his memory.”

Santa is played by John Thompson, whose resum‚ includes over 500 productions. The play features five local actors and is directed by Ingersoll Dinner Theatre actress Kay Mueller.

“All but one of the actors are veterans,” Kees said. “Kay has appeared on the main stage many times, but I believe this is her directing debut.

“It’s a children-oriented script. The props are toys kids will really think are neat,” Kees added.

On the main stage of the theater is The Lovely Liebowitz Sisters in Krakatoa Holiday. It runs Wednesday thru Saturday, with dinner being served from 6 to 7:30 p.m., and the play kicking off at 8. Sunday performances begin with dinner at 3 and the play at 5 p.m.

“People are really pouring through the door for this one,” Kees exclaimed. “It did well at the Civic Center last year. It is really high-energy…Holiday plays do really well. People want to get out and have fun this time of the year.”

Show dates for The Year Santa Almost Forgot Christmas are December 9, 12, 16, 21 and 23. A children’s style meal is served from 11 to 11:45 a.m. with the performance beginning at noon.
