Senior Class Council narrows gift options

Between finals and measurements for caps and gowns, Senior Class Council officials are encouraging all Iowa State seniors to “leave their mark” and vote for the senior class gift.

The Senior Class Council passed out about 1,500 ballots for seniors to fill out with their teacher evaluations.

However, if seniors did not have a chance to vote in their classes, they may pick up a ballot in the Student Alumni Association office, Room 153 of the Memorial Union. Completed ballots are due by the end of the semester in the SAA office.

After compiling a list of about 30 ideas for the senior class gift, the SCC narrowed the list of options to the five ideas that would be the most feasible, said Ray Wijangco, Senior Class Council challenge officer. “We also had to make sure these projects were not being done by other groups.”

The five finalists for the Senior Class Challenge, the class gift, are: Campus art conservation, Fisher Theater/C.Y. Stephens Marquee, benches near Lake LaVerne, Curtiss and Marsten lecture hall renovations and a student courtyard on campus.

After winter break, the SCC will announce the senior class gift.

“In March, we’ll begin a Call-a-Thon to get donations from seniors,” Wijangco said.

The SCC’s goal is to raise $100,000 through donations. Past SCC’s have counted on getting $100,000 for their gift, but received much less.

“Seniors are more apt to give money sooner after they graduate and have memories of college still fresh in their mind,” Wijangco said.
