A memorial ceremony will be held today to honor the victims of a Nov. 25, 1985, plane crash that claimed the lives of three Iowa State cross country runners, two coaches, a student trainer and the pilot.

The noon service is being held near the finish line of the new cross country course located on the corner of Hayward Avenue and Mortensen Road across from the Towers Residence Halls.

A stone and plaque, dedicated to those who died, will be moved from Veenker Golf Course to the new cross country course as part of the ceremony.

The seven victims were returning from the NCAA National Championships in Milwaukee, Wis., when poor weather caused the plane to go down. The women’s cross country team finished in second place that year, far better than expected.
