Poetry seminar is coming up

Poets with no plans for the weekend are in luck. A seminar is being held to help area poets improve their writing techniques.

Elizabeth Trejos-Castillo, a senior in psychology and a Costa Rican poet, is hosting the Friday and Saturday seminars.

Trejos said the seminar is free and open to everyone. Participants should bring at least one poem, of any style or content. The group will review each poem and give suggestions for improvements. Poets will present their work at a poetry reading.

Trejos said it is important to offer people the opportunity to have their poetry read and revised and to be able to share it with other people.

“I would like to learn a lot of things through this seminar and the poets that attend. I love writing,” she said.

Trejos, who has been writing poetry for more than 10 years, published a book, In the Absolute Forest of Your Eyes, three years ago.

Trejos organized the event herself. The seminar is being sponsored by the Central American Student Association and is funded by the Government of the Student Body.

The seminar will be held Friday night from 5-7 p.m. in 120 Ross Hall and 9:30 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday. The poetry reading will be at 7 p.m. in Chessman Lounge of Helser Hall.
