Mickelson soliciting hate

WHO radio talk show host Jan Mickelson is once again propagating homophobic myths with a letter soliciting funds for the California-based anti-gay organization, The Report.

The Report recently sent out 6,000 letters to Iowans bearing Mickelson’s request for donations to the organization, an affiliate of Springs of Life Church in Lancaster, California. The letter encourages recipients to donate funds to help put a stop to the reelection of openly gay Des Moines School Board member Jonathan Wilson.

Mickelson has consistently stirred up fear since the furor over including homosexuality in the Des Moines’ school curriculum exploded earlier this year.

Much as Mickelson would like Iowans to believe that promoting tolerance among youth will turn our children into practitioners of “safe sodomy,” his lack of understanding of the issues at hand is phenomenal.

Mickelson has every right to support a cause he believes in, but it’s very sad that he has chosen to use his own paranoia and misunderstanding of homosexuals to spread fear among Iowans. He has also chosen to ally himself with outsider Bill Horn, the Iowa representative for The Report.

It’s a shame that Mickelson has chosen not to educate himself before concerning himself with the education of our children.
