Free food and creamery tours: CALS week

The College of Agriculture and Life Sciences Student Council will be hosting a slew of events through Saturday for CALS Week.

CALS Week includes a series of events to educate the Iowa State community about agriculture and life sciences, with events such as guest speakers, games and meals on campus.

Monday

Events on Monday include:

  • Block & Bridle Hunger Fight: a collaboration with Block & Bridle, a student organization that aims to provide industry experience to students interested in pursuing careers in animal science, and Meals from the Heartland to combat food insecurity from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
  • Pizza will be offered on Curtiss Lawn from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.
  • A speech from John Wyffels, president of Wyffels Hybrids, on Curtiss Lawn at noon.
  • A tour of the ISU Creamery will be held at 3 p.m.
  • Mr. CALS, a male pageant which gives proceeds to SHOP, a student organization that helps students dealing with food insecurity.

Tuesday

Events on Tuesday include:

  • Walking tacos will be offered on the Curtiss Lawn from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
  • Associate Vice President of Merck Laurie Hueneke will give a speech on Curtiss Lawn at noon. Merck is a multinational pharmaceutical company.
  • The CALS Study Abroad Fair will take place on Curtiss Lawn from 3-5 p.m.
  • The CALS Olympics will take place on Curtiss Lawn.

Wednesday

Events on Wednesday include:

  • Burgers and brats will be offered on the Curtiss Lawn from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
  • A guest speaker from Iowa Corn, a group that lobbies for legislation regarding agriculture, will speak on Curtiss Lawn at noon.
  • Another tour of the ISU Creamery will be held at 2 p.m.
  • William Deal, an alumnus of Iowa State and an ag food entrepreneur investor and consultant, will give a lecture in 0127 Curtiss Hall at 5:30 p.m.

Thursday

Events on Thursday include:

  • Pork chop on-a-stick will be offered from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Curtiss Lawn.
  • A tour of the ISU Creamery with Iowa Secretary of Agriculture Mike Naig will take place at 11:30 a.m.
  • Naig will give a speech at noon on Curtiss Lawn.
  • Block & Bridle will host a glow in the dark dodgeball tournament at 7 p.m. in Beyer Hall.

Friday

On Friday, donuts will be offered from 8:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. on Curtiss Lawn.

Saturday

The Boo Radley Foundation is hosting a Paws to Cure Cancer 5k with check in beginning at 9:30 a.m. on the Northeast Campanile Lawn.

Bringing dogs is welcomed and encouraged, but they must be leashed, friendly and up-to-date on vaccinations. Participants can either walk or run.

    Is the Creamery tour on Thursday at 11:30 pm or 11:30 am?
