AMES – Iowa State hosted Simpson College in the Beauty and the Beast meet and earned its second home victory of the season. The final score was Iowa State 195.675 and Simpson 186.250.
Cyclones blow the Storm away to hold a 4-0 lead in all events
The infamous Beauty and the Beast meet began with the Cyclones on the vault. Iowa State produced a stellar score of 49.000 as a team. Senior Josie Bergstrom Te-Slaa led the team with an individual score of 9.850.
Moving to uneven bars, the Cyclones earned a total score of 48.625. Leading Iowa State’s individual scores was senior Hannah Loyim. With a score of 9.750, Loyim dominated and held first place in individual uneven bars scores.
As the Cyclones transitioned to the beam, the team’s energy was strong. With a total event score of 48.850, Iowa State knew victory was approaching. The individual leader for beam was Bergstrom Te-Slaa, with a score of 9.850.
Iowa State rounded its night with the best performance of the meet. The Cyclones dominated with a 49.200 event score. Senior Rachel Wilke led the team with an individual score of 9.875.
Hilton Magic elevates the energy of Iowa State to win with its highest score of the season
The Cyclones performed with the energy needed to be the team on top. Head coach Ashley Miles Greig credited the success of this team to the atmosphere of Hilton Coliseum.
“They love Hilton and the fans. They took advantage of that energy and just had fun out there,” Miles Grieg said.
The Cyclone pride, along with the dedication of the team, has pushed them ahead of their competition. Leadership unites Iowa State to put its best into every performance.
Bergstrom Te-Slaa has been a leader on and off the mat during her whole Iowa State career. Between two first-place individual finishes during this meet and overall imprint, Bergstrom Te-Slaa elevates pushes for excellence across the team.
“Using my voice and leading by example like hard work, dedication, and integrity they go a long way and they’re seen by my teammates.” Bergstrom Te-Slaa said.
This team proves to be excellent, but the true unity and collective encouragement put the Cyclones in a place beyond the mat performances.
As Iowa State beat Simpson, the next task on its agenda is to take down Arizona State at 6:30 p.m. Friday from Hilton Coliseum. The meet will be streamed live on ESPN+.
