Senior Week is a time for students to have fun, eat food and celebrate their final year of college at Iowa State University. Iowa State’s long-standing tradition of Senior Week continues this week, with events from Sunday to Friday.
To celebrate the start of Senior Week, a senior bags tournament was held from 5 to 7:30 p.m. Sunday at the Alumni Center with prizes available to win, such as senior packages and Iowa State merchandise.
“There are quite a few prizes for winners, I believe there’s gonna be senior packages, Iowa State shirts and hats,” Boyd said.
Senior Week is a week-long event celebrating seniors’ final year, with lots of food and activities to partake in. It’s held twice a year, once in the fall and the other in the spring. The theme for fall Senior Week is “The Final Tour.”
“Senior Week is meant to celebrate seniors’ last year or semester here at Iowa State. In the fall, we primarily focus on senior packages and Senior Week food on campus,” Student Alumni Leadership Council advisor Clarissa Boyd said.
Over the course of the week, there will be multiple food options available for students on central campus, located near Curtiss Hall.
- Tuesday: Bagels and cream cheese will be served.
- Wednesday: “Wieners for seniors” hot dogs will be served.
- Thursday: Quesadillas will be available.
“The Senior Class Council decided on a breakfast-y brunch option for Tuesday, then Wednesday is wieners for seniors, so they’ll be serving hot dogs and on Thursday is quesadillas, so it should be a fun food lineup,” Boyd said.
Alongside the food options, senior packages are also being sold for students. These packages include senior class merchandise, from a t-shirt to stickers and a mug. The purchase of a senior package also grants access to exclusive deals at businesses around Ames. The packages are available for $25.
“A senior package is part of the traditions that the senior class has established over the years,” Boyd said. “Students who purchase a package get access to deals with local businesses in Ames. Then there’s a bunch of included merchandise that seniors can wear all year.”
Many Iowa State alumni continue to wear their senior class merch today.
“I’ll see people out in the wild and Ames randomly wearing their senior class shirt from a few years ago, and so alumni are still wearing their senior class merch and appreciating it. So there is a lot of tradition there,” Boyd said.
