The Young Women’s Christian Association (YWCA) is hosting a fundraiser with live music, a silent auction, an open bar and food catered from seven different Ames venues.

YWCA is a multicultural, faith-based group focused on ending racism, empowering women and fighting for social justice. They’re hosting the event at $35 a ticket, $50 for couples and $15 for ISU students.

The fundraiser will start at 6 p.m. on Feb. 24 at Ames Elks Lodge.

“All the proceeds from the fundraiser will go to raising funds for YWCA programs,” said Angela Merrick, executive director of YWCA Ames. “There’s going to be lots of food and activities, it’ll be a fun night out.”

The Café, Mucky Duck, Wheatsfield, ISU Dining, the IowaStater Restaurant, Applebee’s and Café Diem are catering the fundraiser with various desserts, appetizers and other foods.

YWCA Ames has many programs, such as the mentoring program GIRLS Power, which pairs women studying at Iowa State with local area elementary school girls, and the International Friendship Fair.

“GIRLS Power is really focused on helping young girls understand bullying, self esteem issues and healthy diets while creating healthy relationships,” Merrick said. “The International Friendship Fair has representatives from different countries educate people about their culture, and that happens about four or five times a semester.”

YWCA Ames also offers a $1000 student scholarship. To look at that scholarship and a full list of YWCA programs, click here.

Restaurant and spa gift cards, ISU football tickets, signed jerseys and more will be offered at the silent auction. Guests should show up early to guarantee a spot in the auction.
