The Cyclones finally got some good recruiting news.

After striking out with a few recruits, Iowa State picked up its first spring commit from ex-Virginia guard Marial Shayok on Wednesday night, according to multiple reports.

Shayok will sit out the 2017-18 season due to transfer rules and will have one year of eligibility remaining.

Shayok, who stands at 6 foot 5 and 195 pounds, played in 20.6 minutes per game in the Cavaliers’ Elite Eight run last season, averaging 8.9 points and 1.0 assists per game.

Shayok shot 44.5 percent from the field and 32.8 percent from 3-point range.

The Cyclones now have three scholarships available for the 2017-18 season and are still searching for some big men to sure up their presence in the paint. They have their eyes on junior college forward Shakur Juiston and Nebraska transfer Ed Morrow Jr., according to Alex Halsted of 247sports.
