ISU volleyball picked up a transfer outside hitter Genesis Miranda Thursday afternoon.

Miranda transferred from Evansville after playing two seasons for the Purple Aces. She will have two seasons of eligibility remaining and is eligible to play immediately in the 2016 season for the Cyclones.

There is no special waiver needed to play immediately in Division I sports except for football, men’s and women’s basketball, baseball and men’s ice hockey.

Athletes are permitted a one-time transfer exception. The transfer exception allows the player to transfer and play immediately if they are in good academic standing with the school they are leaving and that school says in writing that it has no problem with the player using the transfer exception.

Miranda finished her sophomore campaign at Evansville with 493 kills, a single season-school record. She had 821 kills, 454 digs, 133 blocks and 61 aces in her two year career at Evansville.

“She carried a big load offensively for her team last year,” said coach Christy Johnson-Lynch in a statement. “I believe she has the makings of a great Big 12-pin hitter.”

She’ll join current Iowa State outside hitters Morgan Kuhrt, Natalie Vondrak, Ciara Capezio and Jess Schaben.

Miranda has played for the Puerto Rican Senior National Team.
