Last year’s upset victory lingers in Iowa State’s mind

There is no doubt that it still lingers in the minds of the women basketball players. 

Just a season ago, on Jan. 10, 2015, the Cyclones were trailing then-No. 3 Texas by 18 points at Hilton Coliseum. But Iowa State inched back pulled within a basket, when guard Seanna Johnson knocked down the game-winning basket to give the Cyclones a 59-57 win. 

But this season, Iowa State enters the matchup with completely different context. The Cyclones are in the midst of a 1-5 stretch and coming off a win against Kansas on Wednesday. 

Even though the odds are stacked against Iowa State, the team is pulling from last season’s upset. Older teammates are even filling in some of the younger players of the feeling. 

“The freshmen weren’t here last year so they didn’t get to experience that,” said redshirt senior Madison Baier. “So we’ve just been filling them in and we’re trying to get more people here to get that Hilton Magic feel and help us.”

The added motivation can only go so far, though. Texas comes
