The ISU tennis team finished the Juan Varon Wildcat Invitational with a stand-out performance in the finals.

Iowa State started the day with five players competing for finals wins and didn’t have to wait long to get one. Freshman Liza Buss came right out of the gate with a 6-2, 6-4 victory to claim the Gold bracket championship. Samantha Budai would win her match to finish third in the same bracket.

The next match was the Maroon bracket final, which featured two Cyclones. Alejandra Galvis defeated Claudia Toledo 6-2, 6-4 to give the team a first and second place finish. That wasn’t the final win of the day, as Regina Espindola turned in a 7-5, 6-2 win to clinch the White bracket.

The Cyclones final singles match featured Annabella Bonadonna coming away with a runner-up finish in the Wildcat bracket.

The team also finished doubles play with a 3-2 record, with Budai/Buss and Galvis/Bonadonna each going 1-1, and Toledo/Anna Kuuttila winning their only match.

This was the final tournament of the fall, and the Cyclones can prepare for the regular season beginning in January having already won some major matches.
