The No. 4 Nebraska Cornhuskers traveled to Ames on Sept. 19 to take on the unranked Iowa State Cyclones and stopped Iowa State’s hopes of a repeat of the 2012’s upset, winning in fours sets (23-25, 25-21, 25-23, 25-11).

To open the first set of the match, Iowa State struck first. After that first point, each team traded off points.

At one point in the match, it looked like Nebraska would be running away with the first set after it amounted a 3-0 run to take the lead at 18-16. The Cyclones did not go away, however, as they fought back to tie the game at 20 a piece. Nebraska ended up winning set one, 25-23, over the Cyclones.

Iowa State would tie the game in the second set. The Cyclones broke a 4-4 tie and ran off a six-point run. Nebraska couldn’t pull it even and Iowa State won 25-21.

The third set was almost a replica of the first. Nebraska jumped out early over Iowa State.

The Cyclones would once again not go away. There were 10 ties and two lead changes. Iowa State went on to fall to Nebraska 25-23 and fall to 2-1 in the match.

In set four, it was a dominant Cornhusker set. Nebraska jumped out an early 9-0 lead. The closest Iowa State would get to Nebraska’s lead was eight points.

The Cornhuskers would eventually go on to win 25-11 over ISU.

The Cyclones will retake the court again when the Texas Tech Red Raiders travel to Hilton Coliseum at 1 p.m. on Sept. 26. It will be the first Big 12 match of the year for Iowa State.
