The ISU tennis team continued its early season success with another strong day at the Gopher Invitational.

The Cyclones opened the day with another standout doubles performance. They only fielded two teams today, and went a combined 3-1. The team of Espindola/Galvis went undefeated for a second straight day with wins against Yonker/Kasilingam (North Dakota) and Kemper/Wolfe (UNI).

The tandem of Buss/Gasparovic had slightly less success going 1-1 with a win against Forlini/Forlini (Air Force). They couldn’t stay perfect in the second round by dropping their final game to Osabouhein/Youle (Northern Illinois) 6-2.

ISU also continued their singles success. Surprising freshman standout Annabella Bonadonna went 1-1 today, securing a chance to play for third place in her first collegiate tournament. The Cyclones had three singles players go undefeated today en route to a 12-5 record for the day.

The youth of the team has had an excellent showing thus far in the tournament, and is sure to be cause for excitement among the team. Aside from Bonadonna’s play, freshmen Liza Buss and Claudia Toledo went 2-0 in their singles play.

The Cyclones will close the tournament tomorrow, with the first matches starting at 9 a.m. at the Baseline Tennis Center.
