The ISU men’s basketball team has added much needed front-court depth with the addition of 6-foot-8-inch power forward Simeon Carter.

Carter will be eligible to play immediately. The Cyclones will graduate three players over 6 feet 6 inches at the end of the 2015-16 season, leaving fellow 2015 commit Brady Ernst and sophomore Georgios Tsalmpouris as the only remaining players who are taller than that height.

Carter is a three-star recruit, according to rivals.com and 247sports.com, and native of West Charlotte, N.C.

He averaged 14.5 points, 9.7 rebounds and 4.0 blocks per game as a senior at West Charlotte High School and blocked at least four shots in 15 games.

“We are really excited to add Simeon to our program,” head coach Steve Prohm said in a statement. “He has a really bright future. He comes from a very good high school program in West Charlotte and we think he’s going to be a really good player in the Big 12 for a really long time.”

Carter was originally committed to SMU and Prohm said they talked to his high school coaches and Southern Methodist University head coach Larry Brown. Prohm thought Carter would be a perfect fit at Iowa State.

With Carter’s commitment, the Cyclones have filled all of their remaining scholarships.

Carter will wear No. 00 for Iowa State.
