The first round of the Las Vegas NBA Summer League tournament started Wednesday with four former ISU players and coaches participating.

DeAndre Kane, Diante Garret and Tyrus McGee were the players among the teams vying for wins and former ISU coach Fred Hoiberg was on the Bulls’ sideline calling the shots.

Kane, playing for the Atlanta Hawks, was the first to play in the first round, taking on the Miami Heat. Kane put up seven points, three rebounds and three assists in the 75-64 win. Atlanta will play the Denver Nuggets at 5:30 p.m. Thursday in the second round of the summer league tournament.

Kane was not the only former Cyclone to move on to the second round of the tournament.

Hoiberg, Garrett and McGee, all members of the Chicago Bulls, cruised to the second round of the tournament. Hoiberg coached the Bulls to a 91-73 win against the Cavaliers. Garrett scored five points and recorded six assists, while McGee tallied 14 points, two rebounds and three assists.

Chicago will meet up against the Toronto Raptors at 7 p.m. Thursday.

Former ISU guard Bryce Dejean-Jones and the New Orleans Pelicans will play the Washington Wizards in the second round at 5 p.m. Thursday.

Dejean-Jones and the Pelicans had a bye in the first round as they were one of the top-eight teams in the regular season of the NBA Summer League.
