Steve Prohm made his first move as the ISU men’s basketball coach Monday morning.

Jon Rothstein of CBS Sports reported that Prohm has hired William Small to be an assistant coach at Iowa State. Small was an assistant under Prohm at Murray State.

Small is a journeyed assistant. He was an assistant coach at Western Kentucky, Troy, Tulane, Georgia State, UTEP and Southeastern Louisiana.

Small was also an assistant with Prohm under Billy Kennedy at Southeastern Louisiana. Kennedy is the current head coach at Texas A&M, a team Iowa State will play against in the Big 12/SEC challenge.

Small recruited Courtney Lee at Western Kentucky, an eventual first round draft pick in the 2008 NBA draft.

He also recruited Cameron Payne, who is expected to be a lottery pick in the upcoming NBA draft.

Prohm has two more assistant coaching vacancies to fill. Current ISU assistants Cornell Mann, T.J. Otzelberger and Charlie Henry are all under contract for only one more year.
