Three ISU men’s track and field athletes made it to the quarterfinals in the NCAA West Preliminaries following the first day of the meet on May 28.

The 800-meter race duo of Edward Kemboi, who was the NCAA 800-meter indoor champion, and Patrick Peterson both punched their tickets to the quarterfinals with sub 1:51 times.

Kemboi continued his senior season success, coasting to a victory in his heat with a time of 1:47.65.

Peterson didn’t match up with his all-American teammate, but he still made it with room to spare with a time of 1:50.20.

Brian Biekert continued his recent trend of success, first qualifying for his first NCAA West Preliminaries after transferring to Iowa State, and then making the quarterfinal in the 1,500-meter race.

He finished 13th overall with a 3:47.43 time.

Jumper Cameron Ostrowski is leaning on the edge in the high jump, tied for 12th place after jumping 7-feet-1.5-inches. Anyone in the top 12 in the event grabs a bid for the NCAA Outdoor Championship on June 10-13.
