The Cyclones fail to capture first series win against Texas Tech

The Cyclones were unable to close out Texas Tech in their final game of the three-game series. The game was Iowa State’s best attempt to capture that elusive first Big 12 series win.

For the third straight game, the Red Raiders opened the action in the first inning. They took the lead on a Kristi Beishe RBI double down the right-field line that gave Texas Tech a 1-0 lead.

The Cyclones were able to respond quickly in their frame of the first. After two quick outs, Aly Cappaert was able to launch a solo home run to tie the game at 1-1. That wouldn’t be the only long ball of the day for the Cyclones as Maddie Reese hit her team-leading 11th home run in the third inning, which extended the lead to 2-1.

The Red Raiders were able to come back in the fifth inning. After a few hitters, Kierra Miles was able to knock in a run with an RBI single to tie the game at 2-2. They were able to take the lead on the following batter with a two-run double to give the Red Raiders a 4-2 lead.

The Red Raiders would also add another in the sixth inning to increase the deficit to 5-2. They would score again in the seventh frame to make it 6-2. The Cyclones had a comeback attempt in the bottom of the seventh, scoring three runs, but would come up just short in the 6-5 loss.

The Cyclones are back in action against Kansas at 4 p.m. May 8.
