Iowa State splits double header against Oklahoma State

The Cyclones broke even in their doubleheader against Oklahoma State on April 11.

In the first game, the Cowgirls jumped out to an early 4-0 lead in the opening inning. The Cyclones combated the four runs with three runs of their own in the bottom of the first to make the score 4-3 through one.

Iowa State grabbed its first lead of the day when senior Maddie Reese hit a two-run single in the third to take the lead at 5-4. The Cyclones’ lead did not last long, as the Cowgirls tied the score at five apiece in the fourth.

The Cowgirls regained the lead in the seventh inning when they tallied three more runs to their total. The Cyclones scored one more run in the seventh but couldn’t climb all the way back, losing by a final score 8-6.

After dropping the first game, the Cyclones bounced back. The Cowgirls again scored early in the first, putting up three early runs.

The Cyclones finally jumped on the scoreboard when junior Brittany Gomez brought home senior Jorden Spendlove to make the score 3-1 in the bottom fourth.

Iowa State captured the lead in the sixth when they tallying four runs and defeating Oklahoma State 5-3 for the team’s first conference win of the season.

Iowa State returns to the diamond April 15 against Iowa in Iowa City at 6 p.m. in the Cy-Hawk series.
