Both sides of the ISU men’s track and field team on Friday and Saturday impressed in Des Moines and Tempe, Ariz.

In Des Moines for the Jim Duncan Invitational, the sprinters, hurdlers and field event athletes competed. On Friday, only Jalen Ford notched a top-five finish with a 6’6″ high jump, which was good for second in the event.

Multi-event athlete Taylor Sanderson threw his personal best in the discus on Saturday with a 43.69-meter toss. He finished sixth.

Freshman hurdler Logan Schneider kept Iowa State’s strong day going with a first place finish in the 110-meter hurdles after his 14.80 second run. It was just .33 seconds short of his personal best set in high school.

Waukee, Iowa, native Henry Kelley grabbed a first place finish in front of his family and friends after tossing 55.98 meters in the hammer throw.

In Arizona, the Cyclones were able to replicate the strong day of their teammates in the Midwest.

All-American distance runner Edward Kemboi made his outdoor debut in the 400-meter dash and he made the most of it. He ran a 47.94-second race, which is his new personal record, and finished 10th.

Kemboi’s fellow distance runner, Brandon Wheaton, had himself a record day, setting his personal mark in the 800-meter run at 1:51.47.

The Cyclones have the Mt. SAC relays and the Kansas Relays coming up next weekend.
