Teams and players to watch at the Lady Puerto Rico Golf Classic

The Lady Puerto Rico Classic has become a staple on the ISU women’s golf schedule, as this year marks the 10th straight year that the Cyclones will travel to Rio Grande, Puerto Rico.

The tournament is often filled with several elite teams and individual golfers with this year being no exception. Five top-25 teams and 11 top-50 individuals from Golfweek’s rankings will assemble at the Rio Mar Country Club.

Below are five teams and players that could present the toughest challenge for Iowa State and the rest of the field:

Teams:

1. No. 7 Arkansas (three victories this season, defending champion of the Lady Puerto Rico Golf Classic)

2. No. 9 Northwestern (3-0 versus Iowa State this season, third place at 2014 Lady Puerto Rico Classic)

3. No. 17 LSU (one victory this season)

4. No. 18 Auburn (one victory this season, fourth place at 2014 LPRC)

5. No. 28 GRU-Augusta (runner-up at 2014 LPRC)

Individuals:

1. No. 22 Suc Tangkamolprasert, Northwestern (highest-ranked player in the field, placed 23rd in 2014 LPRC)

2. No. 24 Sophia Schubert, Auburn (second-highest ranked player in the field)

3. No. 25 Hannah Kim, Northwestern (third-highest ranked player in the field)

4. No. 29 Gaby Lopez, Arkansas (fourth-highest ranked player in the field, placed third at 2014 LPRC)

5. No. 170 Aurora Kan, Purdue (tied for medalist honors at 2014 LPRC)
