The ISU softball team’s early scoring helped the team cap off the University of Texas-San Antonio (UTSA) Classic with a win against Southeastern Louisiana.

The Cyclones jumped out ahead of the Lions in the first inning when junior Aly Cappaert hit a double to bring home outfielder Brittany Gomez. They added another run as second baseman Maddie Reese flied out to right field to drive in Cappaert.

Three scoreless innings went by until Southeastern Louisiana cut the lead to one, scoring on a wild pitch during the bottom of the fourth.

After the fourth, both teams were unable to capitalize on any opportunities they had in the later innings as the scoring ground to a halt. The final tally was 2-1 in favor of the Cyclones.

ISU freshman pitcher Brianna Weilbacher pitched 5.1 innings to earn the win, but senior Stacy Roggentien came into the game and claimed the save for the Cyclones.

The Cyclones finished this weekend’s University of Texas-San Antonio Classic with a perfect 3-0 record.

Iowa State will attempt to keep on rolling when it takes on the University of California-Davis at 11 a.m. Feb. 27 at the San Diego Classic in San Diego, Calif.
