Fresh faces contribute to early success for ISU women’s track and field

One event was all it took for freshman long jumper Jhoanmy Luque to make an impression on the women’s track and field team.

And that one event happened to be Luque’s first as a Cyclone. Luque jumped her way to sixth in the ISU record books with a mark of 19’8” in the long jump.

Luque wasn’t the only young jumper to impress at the Big 4 Duals on Jan. 25, as redshirt freshman Katie Reeves finished out a top-three sweep in the high jump for Iowa State.

Reeves finished with a mark of 5’6.5” in the event, placing third overall behind fellow teammates Marine Vallet and Hannah Willms.

The two jumpers provide Iowa State with a bright future in the jumping events.
