Niang embraces Cy-Hawk rivalry

Heading into his third Cy-Hawk game, Georges Niang has learned his lesson. The always-vocal leader of the team has made himself a target for Iowa fans since last season after calling Iowa the “Cyclone State” following its win over the Hawkeyes last year.

Then, the tweet seen around the state in the offseason — a picture of Niang sipping tea in front of a photo of his go-ahead shot to beat the Hawkeyes, recreating a popular meme that is often accompanied by the phrase, “that’s none of my business.”

“I don’t even want to start,” Niang joked when asked about what he had to say this year. “It’s going to be a thrill, to travel with our team down there and get things rolling, Nov. 12 can’t come soon enough.”

But don’t expect a warm welcome from Hawkeye fans. In what will likely be one of the most hostile environments the Cyclones will experience this season, Niang will probably hear his fair share of disapproval from Iowa supporters.

Despite setting himself up for ridicule, Niang is taking it in stride.

“I’m expecting the worst, but I love it,” he said. “I did it to myself, so I can handle what I dish out.”
