When it’s worth spending the extra cash

Shelby Kramer

It may seem dumb, but spending some extra cash on these higher-quality things can pay off in the long-run. Some things deserve an investment.

Instead of sticking with the sheets that came with your bed set, go out and purchase some nice 6, 8 or 1200 thread-count sheets. The difference between your old and your new bedspread is unreal. Egyptian cotton, silk, etc. are also worth it. Nothing beats a good night of sleep and better quality sheets will definitely help that out.

Silverware and knife sets are another good thing to spend the extra dough on. You can definitely tell Walmart’s cheapest from a prestigious name like Oneida or Gorham as far as silverware goes. With knife set, better quality lasts longer, stay sharper, cuts smoother, everything just seems to be better. It sucks to put that much money down at once to get the better, more worthwhile stuff, so it might be a good idea to wait until sales or Black Friday to go out and drop some money on this kind of stuff.

This is pretty common sense, but hair conditioner quality makes a big difference. Conditioners can very easily exceed $20 or even $50 per bottle if you want the better (not even the best) quality, but that’s not what this tip means. There’s no need to go crazy and spend a bunch, but staying away from some of the cheaper options might be a good idea. Better conditioner generally means softer, brighter, more healthy hair.

This goes along with laundry detergent. Super cheap brands generally don’t clean your clothes as well, so stay away from the dollar store. It’s pretty obvious that the more expensive you go, the softer your clothes will probably be, they better they’ll smell, and the longer they’ll last.

This is pretty academic and useful on a day-to-day basis, but if you’re printing your resume or cover letter to send to a potential employer or opportunity, make sure you invest in some good paper. Paper quality can be a deciding factor when it comes to where your information will be sorted when it comes to interview decisions.

These tips don’t need to be taken seriously, but better quality stuff usually pays off with better results and the fact that things usually last longer. Good luck shopping.
