Cyclone Hockey squeezes out split against Lindenwood

Luke Manderfeld

After losing a close game in a shootout the night before, Cyclone Hockey squeezed out a 2-1 victory against the Lindenwood Lions on Dec. 6 at the Lindenwood Ice Arena.

The first period was anything but conventional. The Cyclones scored short-handed after the Lindenwood goalie gave the puck away to Trevor Lloyd, who put his team up by one. The oddities continued with just over two minutes left in the first period when Cyclone goaltender Matt Cooper was assessed a ten-minute game misconduct penalty and was taken out of the game. Scott Ismond replaced him in net.

The Lions answered back three minutes into the second period, but the Cyclones got the lead back 17 seconds later after Zack Johnson deflected a shot into the back of the net. The Lions out-shot the Cyclones 14-6 in the period, but thanks to Ismond’s effort in net, the Cyclones stayed ahead 2-1 going into the second intermission.

The score held after Ismond stopped 10-of-10 shots in the third period to secure the victory.

Cyclone Hockey will be back in action next week against Robert Morris University at 7 p.m. on Dec. 6 at the Ames/ISU Ice Arena.
