Fall style guide for men

Christian Dahl

With the weather in Ames being as unpredictable as it is and fall quickly approaching, here is a versatile guide to go by for this fall.

Gingham Dress Shirt

Roll the sleeves up and pair it with a pair of chinos for those warmer fall days. When the wind is blowing and it is a little colder, throw a sweater over, pop the collar out, and throw on some jeans. Where to buy? Head over to www.jcrew.com for a nice selection

Denim

A nice pair of jeans is the best investment you can make this fall. Look for a versatile pair that would go with not only your intramural championship T-shirt, but also a hoodie or throw-over. For a more personal fit and fade, head over to tateandyoko.com

Sweater

Some days will be colder than others, so be prepared for when those days hit. Every guy needs a go-to throw-over. Let us explore a few options. For a more casual look, look to American Apparel for a quality hoodie at a nice price. For a little more dressed up look, check out Moods of Norway who carries various different sweaters with a solid variety of colors and prints.

Pants

Let’s face it, you can’t rock your new denim every day: here are some alternatives. The new fad is jogger pants. In simple terms, they are chinos with a tailored fit, and a cuff at the bottom. They are a comfortable and functional alternative to jeans, and you can show off your footwear at the same time. If joggers are too progressive of a look for you, not all hope is lost. A good idea would be to put a fun twist on a classic. Take khakis for example, Dickies skinny fit 5-pocket pant is a simple and clean look, with a much better look than your average baggy khakis. Both pant options mentioned can be picked up at Urban Outfitters. Zanerobe Joggers are pictured.

Footwear

It may be a little too late in the year to pick up some new sneakers, so here are some other ideas. A nice leather pair of boots is a great idea. They look good while the leaves are falling, and become even more functional when the snow starts coming down. Brands like Timberland and Red Wing are some more established brands to check out. A sleeper might be Sebago or Dr. Martens, who may not have the same selection, but they are no slouches. Ronnie Fieg X Sebago boots are pictured
