Bernie Sanders talks about his campaign for presidency in the Sun Room of the Memorial Union including his desire to change the economy. “When we talk about wages, we are going to end this nonsense that women make 80 cents on the dollar compared to men,’ said Sanders. Sanders visited Ames on May 4 to talk about his campaign for presidency and his slogan “Not me. Us.” He will also stop by Perry, Fort Dodge and Sioux City.

People wait in line to make DIY flower bouquets. Flower Power in Philly was held Tuesday at the west loop of the Memorial Union as a part of Fashion Week at Iowa State. Students could create DIY flower bouquets, eat Rita’s Italian Ice and enter for a chance to win a $50 Anthropologie gift card.

Wise’s three put the Cyclones at 11-8 against the Aggies. The Iowa State women’s basketball team won against New Mexico State 97-61 during the first round of the NCAA Tournament held in Hilton Coliseum on March 23. The Cyclones will move on to play No. 11 seed Missouri State on Monday, March 25 in Hilton Coliseum.

Pete Lee performs a set during the Stand Up Comedy Contest. Lee has been featured on The Tonight Show Staring Jimmy Fallon and NBC’s Last Comic Standing. Lee also hosted the Stand Up Comedy Contest. The Stand Up Comedy Contest was held in the Maintenance Shop on Jan. 24. Students competed with stand up performances judged on their connection with audience, content, stage presence, originality and language.

Wayans is an actor, producer, comedian, write and film director known for his roles in White Chicks, the Netflix movie NAKED and his own sitcom Marlon. Wayans told jokes about parenting, his daughter’s sexuality, his dad being a Jehovah’s Witness and respecting women.

Gold Star Hall Ceremony attendees look at the displays for the three honorees, William “Howard” Butler, Robert Vance Rannells and Richard Wayne Suesens. The Gold Star Hall Ceremony was held on Nov. 12 in the Great Hall of the Memorial Union. This year’s ceremony honored three fallen WWII service members, and celebrated the one hundred year anniversary of the end of WWI and the ninety year anniversary of the Memorial Union.

The band Dhun performs in the Great Hall of the Memorial Union. Dhun is an Indian music band based out of Des Moines. Diwali Night was hosted by the Indian Students Association on Nov. 11 in the Memorial Union. People were invited to enjoy the Festival of Lights with music, dance, handicrafts, games and Indian food.

Orpheus in the Underworld is a satirical and comedic opera about the story of Orpheus traveling from Earth to Mount. Olympus to the Underworld to rescue his wife Eurydice. The opera will be perform in Fisher Theater on Nov. 1, 2 and 3 at 7:30 p.m. and Nov. 4 at 2 p.m.

Jackie lip syncs to “God is a Woman” by Ariana Grande at the Annual Pride Alliance Halloween Drag Show. The event was hosted by the Pride Alliance on Oct. 27 in the Great Hall of the Memorial Union. Proceeds from the event are going toward students attending the Midwest Bisexual Lesbian Gay Transgender Asexual College Conference (MBLGTACC). The annual conference helps connect, educate and empower queer and trans+ college students, faculty and staff in the Midwest.

Elizabeth Smart told her personal story and gave valuable advice at the “From Adversity to Empowerment” lecture on Friday. One piece of advice she gave came from her mother, the morning after she was home again. Her mother said, ”Elizabeth what these people have done to you is terrible…they stole 9 months of your life away from you that you will never get back, but the best punishment you could ever give them is to be happy.”
