Defensive end Cory Morrissey and kicker Cole Netten were honored by the Big 12 this morning after their performances against Iowa on Sept. 13.

Morrissey, who was an honorable mention All-Big 12 pick in 2013, was named defensive player of the week after turning in a career performance. Morrissey earned seven tackles, three of which were for losses, and two sacks — all of which are career highs for Morrissey.

Morrissey’s 3.5 sacks on the season are the second most in the Big 12 and his multi-sack game against Iowa was the first since Jake McDonough accomplished the feat against TCU in 2012.

Heading into the Iowa game, Netten’s career long was 41 yards, but he would surpass that twice on the day. Netten kicked a career long 47-yard field goal in the first half and then sealed the victory for Iowa State with a 42-yard game-winning field goal with two seconds left on the clock.

Netten was named the special teams player of the week by the Big 12.
