Iowa State to receive $23 million from conference revenue

Big 12 commissioner Bob Bowlsby ended the conference’s annual spring meeting with a $220 million bang on May 30.

Bowlsby announced that of the $220 million amassed by the Big 12 in revenue this past school year, $23 million will land in the laps of the eight charter members, one of which is Iowa State. West Virginia and TCU, both in their second year as members of the 10 team conference, will receive $14 million as part of a two year phase-in plan that will end in 2015-16

Bowlsby said that $7.8 million will be withheld by the league for operating revenue.

In comparison to other power conferences, the Big 12 stacks up fairly well. The Big Ten announced earlier in May that its members will be receiving $26 million in revenue distribution, while the Pac-12 will distribute just less than $20 million.

The Southeastern Conference, which houses 14 teams, making it the third largest conference in the NCAA, will distribute $20.9 million of the $309.6 million it brought in.

The revenue racked up by the Big 12 is generated through football bowl games, NCAA men’s basketball tournament and media contracts with ESPN/ABC and Fox.
