Iowa State can’t hang on in 71-64 loss to Texas

The ISU women’s basketball (16-7, 5-7 Big 12) team suffered another heartbreaker, losing a late second half lead to fall 71-64 to Texas (16-7, 7-4 Big 12).

After leading for nearly 36 minutes of the game, Iowa State headed into a scoring drought with just over seven minutes to play. The Longhorns outscored the Cyclones 23-8 in that time and kept Iowa State to only one successful field goal.

Nikki Moody led the Cyclones with 19 points and seven rebounds. She made 5-of-10 3-pointers, with Iowa State making 11 as a team. Moody fouled out of the game with less than a minute to play down by only four points.

Seanna Johnson scored 13 points and pulled down nine rebounds, and fellow freshman Jadda Buckley added 14 points with five assists. The Cyclones were out-rebounded 43-29 in the loss.

The Cyclones have lost seven of their last nine games after starting the season 14-0. The team has now fallen to seventh in the Big 12 conference with six games remaining.
